Welcome to a different kind of school.

Albemarle Montessori Children’s Community (AMCC) is a year-round Montessori school rooted in internationally recognized standards. We provide a safe, nurturing environment where children grow at their own pace, guided by caring educators who honor each child’s unique personality and potential. Our all-day, all-year programs offer families the perfect balance of convenience, quality education, and joyful learning.

Our Vision

We strive to provide the highest standard of authentic Montessori education—fostering independent, confident, and compassionate learners from toddlerhood through adolescence.

As the only AMI-recognized Montessori school in Central Virginia, we are proud to uphold internationally respected Montessori principles across every stage of childhood. Our classrooms are thoughtfully prepared for each age group:

  • Toddler Class: 16 months to 3 years

  • Primary Class: 3 to 6 years

  • Elementary Program: 1st through 6th grade

Backed by decades of research in child development and learning science, the Montessori method continues to stand out as one of the most effective, respectful, and empowering forms of education. At AMCC, we bring that vision to life—every day, in every classroom.

What is Montessori Schooling?

The Montessori approach nurtures independence, exploration, creativity, and collaborative work at all levels, because it is critical for the overall development of the “whole child.” Every Montessori student is able to learn at his or her own pace through one-on-one lessons with the lead guide and the manipulation of didactic materials. As importantly, Montessori education assists each child to hone their “emotional intelligence” that encompasses all of the lifelong abilities generally known as “social skills.”

At the Elementary and Middle School levels, the pace still adapts to each individual child, but there are small group lessons, reflecting the need for greater peer interaction inherent in the older student.
