Toddler & (16 Months to Age 3)

At AMCC, our Toddler Communities serve children from 16 months to 3 years, offering a safe, nurturing environment designed for early developmental needs.

These environments foster your child’s growth in independence, concentration, and motor coordination. In the Toddler classroom, children begin developing autonomy and essential life skills, including toilet independence.

Our classrooms support both individual and group work, promoting social development and independence through self construction. The spaces are calm, orderly, and home-like—with child-sized furniture, cozy reading areas, and age-appropriate materials designed to invite focus and repetition.

Each day begins with a warm greeting, followed by independent time, lunch, and rest - ensuring a balanced rhythm of joyful learning throughout the day.

Scope & Sequence: Toddler & Pre-Primary Program

Our Toddler and Pre-Primary classrooms are thoughtfully designed for children ages 18 months to 3 years. These early years are a vital stage in a child’s development, and our Montessori environment nurtures each child’s growing sense of independence, focus, coordination, and social awareness.

Developmental Goals

Children in the Toddler Community (16 months–3 years) begin by developing functional independence, gross motor coordination, balance, and sensory awareness. They build on those foundations as they transition into the Pre-Primary Community (around age 3) with emerging fine motor skills, self-control, sequencing abilities, and refined concentration—all essential to successful Primary-level Montessori work.

Core Areas of Focus

Language Development

Language is central to the Montessori environment and includes spoken language, vocabulary building, music, and art. Children are immersed in rich language experiences that support verbal expression, memory, and early literacy. They learn new vocabulary daily and explore beginning and ending sounds, all while developing an understanding of language in context. Music and art are also integrated as essential tools for self-expression and communication.

Sensorial & Manipulative Work

Our manipulative materials promote fine motor development, manual dexterity, and muscle memory through purposeful, hands-on experiences. Children explore the form and function of objects through touch, supporting their ability to concentrate, problem-solve, and develop a sense of mastery over their movements and tasks.

Grace & Courtesy

Social development is woven into daily classroom life. Through modeled behaviors and real-world practice, children are introduced to Grace (the control of one’s body) and Courtesy (respect and care for others). These essential Montessori values are practiced through everyday social interactions, helping children develop empathy, patience, and a sense of belonging.

This early Montessori scope and sequence builds a strong, joyful foundation for lifelong learning—developing the whole child academically, physically, socially, and emotionally.
